Michael Kontochristos


Michael was born in Athens in 1967. Growing up in a musical family, he inherited a passion for World music, and musicology.
He quickly found himself involved professionally in the Victorian music scene. From 1985 to 1988, Michael attended the Victorian College of the Arts, where he studied Classical Percussion under the guidance of Mr Barry Quinn and Mr Robert Clarke. During his studies, Michael was also instructed in Latin and Brazilian percussion under the tuition of Mr Alex Pertout.

A freelance musician of more than 25 years, Michael has established himself as one of Melbourne's most versatile and dynamic percussionists and educators.
He is proficient in various musical styles from around the world, specialising in Flamenco, Middle Eastern and Latin music.
He is also a highly experienced educator. Michael has conducted percussion ensembles at Universities, Colleges, TAFE's, and Schools around Victoria.
He has also conducted drum clinics, representing LP Percussion his primary endorser.

Michael's experience is highly versatile. He has performed in musicals, such as The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and he was also deputy percussionist for the Melbourne season of the Lion King. He has also appeared on television shows such as Dancing with the Stars and has been involved with numerous studio sessions for advertisements and television commercials.
